  1. “So, you can’t code with ChatGPT if you’re a complete noob.
However, if you’re just barely past the point of being a noob, then you can do it.”

after creating two plugins with chatGPT that’s my conclusion as well 🙂
it’s good for basic functionalities but when things get complicated, it gets overhelmed and it’s a lot of back and forth until you get something great out of it.
still if anyone would tell me 1 year ago that I would create a WP plugin in one day/several hours with AI, I’m not sure if I would believe it

  2. I came across this article by chance, as I recently decided to try using ChatGPT to help me create WordPress plugins and themes.

The main reason was that I couldn’t find a simple plugin that met my specific needs. I have some knowledge of PHP — not advanced — but I’m confident with HTML and CSS.

I’ve just finished developing my first two plugins using ChatGPT, and here are my thoughts:

It’s a very useful tool, especially if you have a clear idea of what you want to achieve and can provide detailed instructions. However, it’s important to download and save your progress at each stage, as ChatGPT can make mistakes like any tool. In a few cases, I had to go back to an earlier version.

Twice, ChatGPT wasn’t able to identify mistakes in the code it had generated, so I used GitHub Copilot to help debug. Once the issue was found, I uploaded the corrected file back into ChatGPT and continued from there.

The majority of my time was spent checking and fixing errors. In total, I spent about 4 hours developing one plugin.

Why am I leaving this comment? Because it was really interesting to read about someone else’s experience doing exactly what I just did.

    1. Things changed so much since I wrote this. But it was just me dabbling in doing stuff with ChatGPT. These days, I basically live in Cursor!

Good luck to you and with your projects, Armand!
