Why You Might Need an Independent Online Business / Website Valuation
There are various “free” valuation tools and services available on the web provided by online business brokers. But they all fall short in a few ways.
While you can’t argue with “free”, the evaluations provided by brokers fall short in a few ways:
- “As-is”: They will value your business based only past revenue performance — but not take into account either risks or opportunities, or model out the future.
- Non-independent: They are driven by an ulterior motive — to get your business and earn a commission on the sale. They’re likely to employ sales strategies to get you to sign with them without giving you an objective piece of advice as to your asset’s worth.
- Superficial: The valuation comes out of a “black box” of internal proprietary information. It’s related to net profit and a list of other things, but you won’t get a detailed explanation.
